Obstructed Landscapes
Artist Statement: Obstructed Landscapes
(March 6, 2022)
In the Obstructed Landscapes series, my aim was to reveal how the world’s beauty is always present, yet often quietly obstructed by everyday elements. During the show on March 6, 2022, I wanted viewers to notice how something as simple as a power line or a building can interrupt a sunset, just as a stray thumb might interrupt a photograph. We often do not realize these small barriers in our daily life, and through my paintings, I wanted to invite a moment of reflection.
By engaging with these pieces, we can return to our own lives and consider what might be preventing us from fully seeing the vistas we long for and deserve. It is about recognizing that these obstructions exist and that by noticing them, we can begin to see our world and ourselves with greater tenderness, curiosity, and truth. When we learn to look beyond the interruption, beauty reemerges in a new form, shaped by what once blocked our view.
